Course Overview:
Delivery Options:
Length: 3-days (24 hrs)
Percentage Hands-On: 75%
Platform: Rockwell CompactLogix L33ER(M) PLC training stations with digital and analog I/O, Studio 5000 Logix Designer
Description:
This hands-on course teaches maintenance technicians how a PLC system connects to the real world, and how to find and fix the problems that typically stop a machine or process.
Students connect the PLC to real field devices through our realistic DIN-rail terminal-block setup, then examine how the logic uses each device. Devices range from switches and lamps to photo-eyes, proximity switches and analog devices.
This is a troubleshooting course, not a programming course. It covers many of the same basic program functions as our ControlLogix course without going as deep into programming, and it builds a strong foundation for anyone who later wants to learn to program.
What students learn:
- How real-world digital and analog I/O devices are wired to a PLC, and how to troubleshoot typical wiring and device problems
- Reading and interpreting basic ladder logic and basic function block diagram (FBD) logic
- Going online with Studio 5000, monitoring tags, and following logic to find a fault
- Basic maintenance functions such as forces, minor edits, and downloading existing sample programs for troubleshooting practice
- The hazards and risks of working on a live PLC system, and safe practices for connecting to one (very important for anyone who connects live to a PLC)
- A logical, systematic troubleshooting method applied to PLC-controlled systems
Who should attend:
Maintenance technicians, electricians, instrument technicians and anyone who supports PLC-controlled equipment and needs to diagnose problems quickly and safely.
Equipment:
Each station uses a Rockwell CompactLogix L33ER(M) PLC with analog and digital I/O, wired to real field devices through DIN-rail terminal blocks, with Studio 5000 software.
